[ REPUBLIC ACT NO. 9232, December 22, 2003 ]

AN ACT AMENDING SECTIONS 2, 11 (A) AND 55 OF REPUBLIC ACT NUMBERED EIGHTY-FIVE HUNDRED AND EIGHT ENTITLED "AN ACT CONVERTING THE MUNICIPALITY OF ANTIPOLO INTO A COMPONENT CITY TO BE KNOWN AS THE CITY OF ANTIPOLO." AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS THEREFOR



Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippines in Congress assembled:

SECTION 1. Section 2 of Republic Act No. 8508, otherwise known as the Charter of the City of Antipolo is hereby amended to read as follows:

"SEC. 2. The City of Antipolo. - The Municipality of Antipolo is hereby converted into a component of city to be known as the City of Antipolo, hereinafter referred to as the City, which shall comprise of the present territory of the Municipality of Antipolo, Rizal, covering the sixteen (16) barangays of both First District of Antipolo, namely: Second District of Antipolo, namely:
  1. Barangay Dela Paz;
  2. Barangay San Isidro;
  3. Barangay Beverly Hills;
  4. Barangay Sta. Cruz;
  5. BarangayMayamot;
  6. Barangay Mambugan
  7. Barangay Bagong Nayon; and
  8. Barangay Muniting Dilao; and
Second District of Antipolo, namely:
  1. Barangay Cupang;
  2. Barangay San Juan;
  3. Barangay Inarawan;
  4. Barangay Calawis;
  5. BarangayDalig;
  6. Barangay San Jose;
  7. Barangay San Roque; and
  8. Barangay San Luis.
Henceforth, the City of Antipolo shall be deemed as divided into two (2) districts: First District and Second District for the better supervision and more efficient delivery of services.

The foregoing provision shall be without prejudice to the resolution or determination by the appropriate agency or forum of existing and/or future boundary disputes or cases involving the present sixteen (16) barangays of the City of Antipolo and between the City and the other adjoining municipalities.


SEC. 2. Section 11(a) of Republic Act No. 8508, otherwise known as the Charter of the City of Antipolo is hereby amended to read as follows:

"SEC. 11. The Sangguniang Panlungsod. - (a) The Sangguniang Panlungsod, the legislative body of the City, shall be composed of the following: the city vice mayor as presiding officer; the sixteen (16) regular sanggunian members who shall be elected by district, eight (8) of which shall represent the First District of Antipolo and the other eight (8) shall represent the Second District of Antipolo; the president of the city chapter of the liga ng mga barangay; the president of the panlungsod na pederasyon ng mga sangguniang kabataan; and the sectoral representatives.

SEC. 3. Section 55 of Republic Act No. 8508, otherwise known as the Charter of the City of Antipolo, is hereby amended to read as follows:

"SEC. 55. Legislative Districts. - The City of Antipolo shall have two (2) legislative districts to commence at the next national elections to be held after the effectivity of this Act. Henceforth, barangays Bagong Nayon, Beverly Hills, De la Paz, Mambugan, Mayamot, Munting Dilao, San Isidro and Sta. Cruz shall compose the first district while barangays Calawis, Cupang, Dalig, Inarawan, San Jose, San Juan, San Luis and San Roque shall form part of the second district. The two (2) elective members of the sangguniang panlalawigan provided under Section 54 hereof, as amended by Section 1 of Republic Act No. 9047, shall be elected by legislative district, with each district of Antipolo City being entitled to one (1) representative to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Rizal."


SEC. 4. All laws, executive order, regulations or parts thereof inconsistent with the provisions of this Act are hereby repealed or modified accordingly.

SEC. 5. This Act shall take effect fifteen (15) days after its publication in at least two (2) newspapers of general circulation in the Philippines.

This Act which originated in the House of Representatives was finally passed by the House of Representatives and the Senate on December 9, 2003 and November 24, 2003, respectively.
