[ REPUBLIC ACT NO. 7518, May 21, 1992 ]

AN ACT CONVERTING THE JOSE P. LAUREL MEMORIAL SCHOOL OF ARTS AND TRADES IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF MALVAR, PROVINCE OF BATANGAS, INTO A COLLEGE TO BE KNOWN AS THE JOSE P. LAUREL POLYTECHNIC COLLEGE, AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS THEREFOR



Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippines in Congress assembled:

SECTION 1. The Jose P. Laurel Memorial School of Arts and Trades in the Municipality of Malvar, Province of Batangas, is hereby converted into a college to be known as the Jose P. Laurel Polytechnic College.

SEC. 2. The College shall primarily provide vocational, technical and professional instruction and training in applied arts and sciences as well as short-term vocational and technical courses. It shall also promote research, advanced studies and progressive leadership in the stated fields.

SEC. 3. The Jose P. Laurel Polytechnic College shall be headed by a vocational school superintendent who shall be appointed by the Secretary of the Department of Education, Culture and Sports.

SEC. 4. In order not to disrupt the present administrative operations of the Jose P. Laurel School of Arts and Trades, the incumbent vocational school administrator shall be the first vocational school superintendent, and all its personnel shall be absorbed by the College.

SEC. 5. The school personnel of the Jose P. Laurel Polytechnic College shall be covered by the Civil Service rules and regulations.

SEC. 6. In addition to the current appropriations of the Jose P. Laurel Memorial School of Arts and Trades, the amount needed to carry out the provisions of this Act shall be included in the General Appropriations Act of the year following its enactment into law and thereafter.

SEC. 7. All laws, decrees, orders, rules and regulations inconsistent with the provisions of this Act are hereby repealed.

SEC. 8. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.

This Act which originated in the House of Representatives was finally passed by the House of Representatives and the Senate on October 17, 1991 and January 27, 1992, respectively.
