[ REPUBLIC ACT NO. 4082, June 18, 1964 ]

AN ACT PROVIDING FOR THE ISSUANCE OF POST¬AGE STAMPS IN SPANISH AND THE NATIONAL LANGUAGE FOR THE YEAR NINETEEN HUNDRED AND SIXTY-FIVE TO COMMEMORATE THE FOUR HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE EVANGELIZATION OF THE PHILIPPINES.



Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippines in Congress assembled:

SECTION 1. The Postmaster General is hereby directed to order the printing and issue of postage stamps of different denominations in Spanish and the National Language to  commemorate the four hundredth  anniversary of the evangelization of the Philippines when Miguel Lopez de Legaspi and Fr. Andres de Urdaneta arrived in Cebu, Philippines, from  Mexico  on  April  twenty-seven,  fifteen hundred sixty-five.  The postage stamps must portray the historic facts of the commencement of the evangelization of the Philippines, our contact with Western civilization and culture which came to us primarily from Spain and Mexico, and the emergence of the Filipino nation by the consolidation of small and distinct kingdoms and tribes.

SEC. 2. The sum of one hundred thousand pesos is here appropriated out of any funds in the National Treasury not otherwise appropriated, to carry out the provisions of this Act.

SEC. 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
