[ Act No. 1809, February 11, 1908 ]

AN ACT APPROPRIATING THE SUM OF ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND PESOS FROM INSULAR FUNDS FOR THE RELIEF OF SUFFERERS FROM PUBLIC CALAMITIES.

By authority of the United States, be it enacted by the Philippine Legislature, that:

SECTION 1. The sum of one hundred thousand pesos, Philippine currency, is hereby appropriated, from any funds in life Insular Treasury not otherwise appropriated, to be expended in the manner hereinafter provided and to be available until expended.

SEC. 2. A joint committee is hereby created, composed of not to exceed seven members of the Philippine Commission, to be pointed by the President thereof, and seven members of the Philippine Assembly, to be appointed by the Speaker thereof, which committee shall have power and authority to consider all petitions for the relief of sufferers from general conflagrations, typhoons, floods, earthquakes, famine, pestilence, epidemics, and other disasters which amount to public calamities. Said joint committee shall, out of the appropriation provided for in section one of this Act, make the award and determine the sum which it may deem necessary for the temporary relief of sufferers from said disasters, and may expend such sum for such relief or may authorize the sum

SEC. 3. All petitions for relief received by the Governor-General Commission of or by the Speaker of the Assembly, and all other petitions received further relief of sufferers from public calamities, shall be immidiately transmitted to the joint committee for which provision is made in section two of this Act.

SEC. 4. This Act shall take effect on its passage.
