[ Act No. 1781, October 12, 1907 ]

AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION TWENTY-SEVEN OF ACT NUMBERED THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY-FIVE, ENTITLED "AN ACT TO CONSTITUTE THE CUSTOMS SERVICE OF THE PHILIPPINE ARCHIPELAGO AND TO PROVIDE FOR THE ADMINISTRATION THEREOF," AS AMENDED, BY PROVIDING FOR THE REMISSION OF DUTIES ON IMPORTATIONS OF THE VALUE OF LESS THAN ONE DOLLAR.

By authority of the United States, be it enacted by the Philippine Commission, that:

SECTION 1. Section twenty-seven of Act Numbered Three hundred and fifty-five, entitled "An Act to constitute the Customs Service of the Philippine Archipelago and to provide for the administration thereof," as amended by section one of Act Numbered Twelve hundred and thirty-five, is hereby further amended so as to read as follows:
SEC. 27. Collectors are required to report to the Secretary of Finance and Justice and the Insular Collector in matters of impending litigation, such as suits upon bonds executed to secure the payment of duties, seizures of goods for violation of the revenue laws, and actions brought against: them as collectors for acts done or moneys collected in the line of their duty.

"They shall have discretionary power, within their respective districts, to remit the assessment of duties in cases where the dutiable value of an importation is. less than one dollar, or to dispense with the seizure of goods less than one dollar in value, except m cases of habitual or intentional violation of the revenue laws and of prohibited importations."
SEC. 2. The public good requiring the speedy enactment of this bill, the passage of the same is hereby expedited in accordance with section two of "An Act prescribing the order of procedure by the Commission in the enactment of laws," passed September twenty-sixth, nineteen hundred.

SEC. 3. This Act shall take effect on its passage.
