[ Act No. 2568., February 03, 1916 ]

AN ACT AMENDING SECTION ONE OF ACT NUMBERED TWENTY-TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY-EIGHT, ENTITLED "AN ACT AUTHORIZING THE USE, UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, OF THE ROAD AND BRIDGE FUND OF THE PROVINCES ORGANIZED UNDER ACT NUMBERED EIGHTY-THREE, FOR SUBSIDIZING OR FOR THE ACQUISITION, OPERATION, AND MAINTENANCE OF WATER TRANSPORTATION," BY AUTHORIZING THE USE OF SAID FUND FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT AND OPERATION OF TELEPHONE SYSTEMS.

By authority of the United States, be it enacted by the Philippine Legislature', that:

SECTION 1. Section one of Act Numbered Twenty-two hundred and twenty-eight is hereby amended to read as follows:

"SECTION 1. The road and bridge funds of the provinces organized under Act Numbered Eighty-three, known as the Provincial Government Act, are hereby authorized to be used upon appropriation of their respective provincial boards-, approved by the Governor-General, in any province which is indebted to the Insular Government, for the purpose of subsidizing, or for acquiring, operating, and maintaining means of water transportation within such provinces and between them and adjacent islands, or to dredge rivers and provide facilities of communication and transportation by river, or to establish and operate a telephone -system within the territory of their respective provinces: Provided, That the expenses of the installment of a telephone system shall in no case exceed thirty per centum of the amount collected for additional cedula taxes, in the manner authorized by Act Numbered Nineteen hundred and thirty-two, which may have accrued to the credit of a municipality; nor shall the expense of maintenance of the same system during one year exceed thirty per centum of the amount collected from the same source and with the same limitations provided by said Act Numbered Nineteen hundred and thirty-two: And provided further, That the construction and supervision of a telephone line shall be under the control of the Bureau of Posts."

SEC. 2. This Act shall take effect on its passage.
