AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION NINE OF ACT NUMBERED ELEVEN HUNDRED AND FORTY-EIGHT, KNOWN AS "THE FOREST ACT," BY AUTHORIZING THE DIRECTOR OF FORESTRY TO ISSUE PERMITS FOR THE USE OF FOREST LANDS AS SITES FOR SAWMILLS, THE CONSTRUCTION OF HOTELS, SANATORIA, RESIDENCES, CAMPS, FISHPONDS, PASTURES, OR OTHER LAWFUL USES.

By authority of the United Slates, be it enacted by the Philippine Legislature, that:

SECTION 1. Section nine of the Forest Act, Numbered Eleven hundred and forty-eight, is hereby amended to read as follows:

"SEC. 9. The Director of Forestry, with the approval of the Secretary of the Interior, may, upon proper terms which he may deem reasonable, lease, as herein provided, forest land as sites for sawmills and timber depots, and for the construction of hotels, sanatoria, residences, or for camps, fishponds, pastures, or other lawful uses, for a period not to exceed twenty years and not more than ten hectares in area, except so far as fishponds are concerned in which case the maximum area shall be two hundred hectares, and pastures, the maximum of which shall be one thousand hectares, to any person or to any association of persons holding timber licenses, for occupancy as sites for sawmills or timber depots or who may wish to establish an industry or a charitable institution.

"The Secretary of the Interior may grant free rights of way through the public lands to enable such persons or associations of persons to get access to the lands to which their leases, or licenses apply."

SEC. 2. This Act shall take effect on its passage.
