[ Act No. 2760, February 23, 1918 ]

AN ACT TO CONFIRM AND RATIFY ALL STEPS TAKEN FOR THE ERECTION, MAINTENANCE, AND IMPROVEMENT OF NATIONAL MONUMENTS AND PARTICULARLY FOR THE ERECTION OF A MONUMENT TO THE MEMORY OF ANDRES BONIFACIO, TO AUTHORIZE THE CREATION OF A COMMITTEE OR COMMITTEES FOR TAKING UP POPULAR SUBSCRIPTIONS, AND TO APPROPRIATE FUNDS THEREFOR.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philip/pines in Legislature assembled and by the authority of the same:

SECTION 1. The preliminary steps taken with a view to erecting a monument to the memory of Andres Bonifacio and the idea of erecting, maintaining,   and   improving national monuments of this character, as expressed in Act Numbered Twenty-four hundred and ninety-four, are hereby confirmed and ratified. For this purpose and in order to expedite as much as possible the realization of the plan s to erect a monument to the memory of Andres Bonifacio, the Secretary of the Interior is authorized to appoint a committee or committees for the purpose of taking up popular subscriptions in such manner and subject to such conditions as said Secretary of the Interior may prescribe. The members of these committees shall serve without compensation. The funds so collected shall be expended by the Secretary of the Interior in any manner conducive to the purpose of the subscription, that is, the erection of the monument, which may include the ordinary payment of agents for the collection on a percentage or per diem basis, in the discretion of said Secretary of the Interior.

SEC. 2. As soon as in the discretion of the Secretary of the Interior a sufficient sum shall have been raised by popular subscription, the Insular Government shall contribute a like sum for the expenses above mentioned, and said Secretary of the Interior shall forthwith direct the work of the erection of the monument to be begun. The Secretary of the Interior may designate any officer or employee of the Insular Government, the city of Manila, or any provincial or municipal government for duty, either individually or as member of a committee, in connection with any work relative to the erection of said monument or the collection of funds therefor, without additional compensation.

SEC. 3. There is hereby appropriated, out of any funds in the Insular Treasury not otherwise appropriated, the sum of twenty-five thousand pesos, or so much thereof as may be necessary, which sum shall be at the disposal of the Secretary of the Interior for the purposes of this Act.

SEC. 4. This Act shall take effect on its approval.
