[ Act No. 2854, March 11, 1919 ]
AN ACT TO APPROPRIATE THE SUM OF THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND PESOS, OR SO MUCH THEREOF AS MAY BE NECESSARY, FOR THE RELIEF OF POOR SUFFERERS FROM EARTHQUAKES, FIRES, FLOODS, TYPHOONS OR OTHER PUBLIC CALAMITIES.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippines in Legislature assembled and by the authority of the same:
SECTION 1. There is hereby appropriated, out of any funds in the Insular Treasury not otherwise appropriated, the sum of three hundred thousand pesos or so much thereof as may be necessary, to be disbursed for the relief of poor sufferers from earthquakes, fires, floods, typhoons, and other public calamities that have occurred or may occur in the Philippine Islands during the years nineteen hundred and eighteen and nineteen hundred and nineteen, including the purchase and transportation of articles or supplies to the territory or territories affected and subsidies to steamers or vessels in order to provide permanent means of transportation or communication with the province or provinces concerned.
SEC. 2. The sum hereby appropriated shall be distributed by the Secretary of the Interior in the territory or territories affected, such distribution to be made pro rata in case there are two or more such territories, and the sum or sums so allotted or prorated shall be disbursed in the discretion of the respective provincial board, with the approval of the Secretary of the Interior, for the purposes hereinbefore specified.
SEC. 3. This Act shall take effect on its approval.
