[ Act No. 3449, November 30, 1928 ]

AN ACT AMENDING SECTION ONE, PARAGRAPH "G," ITEM (CC), AND PARAGRAPH "I," (FCFC), ITEM FOURTEEN, OF ACT NUMBERED THIRTY-FOUR HUNDRED AND TWENTY-SEVEN, ENTITLED "AN ACT MAKING APPROPRIATION FOR PUBLIC WORKS" SO AS TO AUTHORIZE THE ACQUISITION BY PURCHASE OR OTHERWISE OF A FULLY EQUIPPED CABLESHIP, OR THE OBTAINING THE USE OF A SHIP AND THE RECONDITIONING AND EQUIPPING THE SAME FOR CABLE WORK, AND TO PROVIDE FUNDS THEREFOR, INCLUDING THE EXPENSE OF DELIVERING SUCH SHIP IN THE PHILIPPINE ISLANDS, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippines in Legislature assembled and by the authority of the same:

SECTION 1. Section one, paragraph "G," item (cc), of Act Numbered Thirty-four hundred and twenty-seven, is hereby amended to read as follows:

"(cc)
For the construction, reconstruction, maintenance, and repair of radio, telegraph, and telephone lines, and for the purchase of equipment and wire, including the acquisition by purchase or otherwise of a fully equipped cableship, and the expense of delivering same in the Philippine Islands or the obtaining the use of a ship and the reconditioning and equipping the same for cable work, including the expense of delivering the same in the Philippine Islands, and including also the expense of chartering a boat for the purpose of bringing to the Philippine Islands the cable material purchased from, and now in, London, England, to be expended by the Director of Posts with the approval of the Secretary of Commerce and Communications..
P300,000.00

SEC. 2. Section one, paragraph "I," (kk), item fourteen, of Act Numbered Thirty-four hundred and twenty-seven, is also hereby amended to read as follows:

"(14)

For the construction, reconstruction, maintenance, and repair of radio, telegraph, and telephone lines, and for the purchase of equipment and wire, including the acquisition by purchase or otherwise of the fully equipped cableship mentioned in section one of this Act, and the expense of delivering same in the Philippine Islands or the obtaining the use of a ship and the reconditioning and equipping the same for cable work, including the expense of delivering the same in the Philippine Islands, as provided in section one of this Act, and including also the expense of chartering a boat for the purpose of bringing to the Philippine Islands the cable material purchased from, and now in, London, England, to be expended by the Director of Posts with the  approval of the Secretary of Commerce and Communications........................
P295,000.00"

SEC. 3. The Bureau of Posts shall have the administration and control of the cableship, the acquisition of which is herein authorized, and the funds that may be appropriated in the Appropriation Act for nineteen hundred and twenty-nine for the operation, repair and maintenance of the Government cableship shall be transferred from the Bureau of Commerce and Industry to the Bureau of Posts upon authority of the Secretary of Commerce and Communications in the sums to be determined by said Secretary.

SEC. 4. When the cableship mentioned in this Act shall have become available for use in the Philippine Islands, the Insular Auditor is hereby authorized to dispose of by public auction the cableship J. Bustamante in such terms as may be advantageous to the Government.

SEC. 5. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
