[ Act No. 2349, February 28, 1914 ]

AN ACT APPROPRIATING A SUM OF MONEY FOR THE PURPOSE OF REIMBURSING PROVINCIAL EXHIBITORS FOR LOSSES SUSTAINED IN THE EXPOSITION FIRE AT MANILA ON JANUARY TWENTY-SIXTH, NINETEEN HUNDRED AND FOURTEEN.

By authority of the United States, be it enacted by the Philippine Legislature, that:

SECTION 1. There is hereby appropriated from any unappropriated funds in the Insular Treasury the sum of sixty thousand pesos for the purpose of reimbursing exhibitors having exhibits in provincial booths for the losses sustained by them in the fire at the Exposition grounds at Manila on January twenty-sixth, nineteen hundred and fourteen.  The amount thus appropriated shall be divided among the provinces sustaining losses of private exhibits at such fire in proportion to such losses, including articles loaned to the provinces for exhibition purposes by private individuals, schools, municipalities, commercial companies, and other associations.  Allotments shall be made to the several provinces by the Secretary of Commerce and Police upon the certificate of the Insular Auditor of the loss of such private exhibits sustained by the several provinces.

SEC. 2. From the allotments made as provided in section one hereof, the provincial treasurers of the respective provinces shall reimburse exhibitors for articles lost in the fire in the sums agreed upon at the time of receiving such Provincial boards,exhibits: Provided, however, That in cases where no price was agreed upon, reimbursement shall be made in an amount to be fixed by the provincial board, not exceeding the actual value of such articles. In case the allotment herein provided for to any province shall be insufficient to reimburse exhibitors in full, payment may be made pro rata.

SEC. 3. This Act shall take effect upon its passage.
