[ Act No. 3515, January 08, 1929 ]

AN ACT AMENDING ITEM NUMBERED TWO HUNDRED AND THIRTY-SEVEN, CLASS XIII, AND ITEM NUMBERED THREE HUNDRED AND ONE, CLASS XIV, UNDER SECTION EIGHT OF THE PHILIPPINE TARIFF LAW, ACT OF CONGRESS OF AUGUST FIFTH, NINETEEN HUNDRED AND NINE.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippines in Legislature assembled and by the authority of the same:

SECTION 1. Item  numbered  two  hundred  and  thirty-seven, Class XIII, under section eight of the Philippine Tariff Law, Act of Congress of August fifth, nineteen hundred and nine, is hereby amended to read as follows:
"237. Sugar:

"Sugar refined or unrefined, the same rates as the rates of the import duty from time to time imposed upon sugar in like forms when imported into the United States: Provided, That the duty to be collected on imported sugar, whether refined or unrefined, shall in no case be less than the duty provided by the Philippine Tariff Act approved by Congress August fifth, nineteen hundred and nine."
SEC. 2. Item numbered three hundred and one, Class XIV, under section eight of the Philippine Tariff Law, Act of Congress of August fifth, nineteen hundred and nine, is hereby amended to read as follows:
"301. Tobacco:

"Tobacco manufactured or unmanufactured, the same rates as the rates of the import duty from time to time imposed upon tobacco in like forms when imported into the United States: Provided, That the duty to be collected on imported tobacco, whether manufactured or unmanufactured, shall in no case be less than the duty provided by the Philippine Tariff Act approved by Congress August fifth, nineteen hundred and nine."
SEC. 3. Upon the express or implicit approval of this Act by the President of the United States, as provided in the Act of Congress approved on August twenty-ninth, nineteen hundred and sixteen, entitled "An Act to declare the purpose of the people of the United States as to the future political status of the people of the Philippine Islands, and to provide a more autonomous government for those Islands," the Governor-General shall so announce forthwith, by means of a proclamation, and this Act shall take effect thirty days after the date of such proclamation.[1]
