[ Act No. 2996, December 21, 1921 ]

AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION SIXTEEN HUNDRED AND SIXTY-SEVEN OF ACT NUMBERED TWENTY-SEVEN HUNDRED AND ELEVEN, KNOWN AS THE ADMINISTRATIVE CODE, CHARGING THE ATTORNEY-GENERAL WITH THE ADMINISTRATION OF THE ESTATES OF THE AMERICAN CITIZENS DYING IN THE PHILIPPINE ISLANDS, IN CERTAIN CASES.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippines in Legislature assembled and by the authority of the same:

SECTION 1. Section sixteen hundred and sixty-seven of Act Numbered Twenty-seven hundred and eleven is hereby amended to read as follows:

"SEC. 1667. Settlement of estates of American citizens.-When a citizen of the United States shall die leaving personal or real property in the Philippine Islands, the Attorney-General, if no regular administration of his estate is had and if there are no relatives applying for letters of administration, shall either in person or through a delegate designated by him take possession of the estate, make a complete inventory thereof, and file the same with the Insular Auditor.

"He shall thereupon proceed to ascertain by the best means within his power the names and residences of the persons who are lawfully entitled to the estate and shall proceed to settle the same and to dispose of the assets in accordance herewith. He may charge for his work such fees as he may deem just, which shall be paid into the Insular Treasury."

SEC. 2. This Act shall take effect on its approval.
