[ Commonwealth Act No. 363, August 23, 1938 ]

AN ACT AUTHORIZING THE WHITE CROSS, INC. TO HOLD HORSE RACES, WITH BETTING, FOR CHARITABLE AND CIVIC PURPOSES AND TO PROMOTE HORSE BREEDING IN THE PHILIPPINES.

Be it enacted by the National Assembly of the Philippines:

SECTION 1. The White Cross, Inc., is hereby authorized, subject to prior approval of the President of the Philippines for each race, to hold annually four horse races, with betting, for charitable and civic purposes and to promotee horse breeding in the Philippines, on a race course or race courses existing in these Islands. Horses other than native shall not be allowed to run in any of these races.

SEC. 2. After deducting the expenses and the sum required for prizes for the horses usually given in races of this description all of which not exceeding twelve per cent of the gross receipts, the entire proceeds of these races shall accrue exclusively to the funds of the White Cross, Inc.

SEC. 3. The White Cross, Inc., shall be exempt from the payment of any municipal or National tax for holding said races.

SEC. 4. The term "horses" when used in this Act shall be understood to refer to stallions and mares.

SEC. 5. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
