[ LETTER OF INSTRUCTIONS NO. 1229, May 01, 1982 ]

DIRECTING THE EMPLOYEES' COMPENSATION COMMISSION TO REVIEW UPDATE AND EXPAND FURTHER THE TABLE OF OCCUPATIONAL DISEASES AND LIST OF WORK-RELATED ILLNESSES UNDER TITLE II, BOOK IV, LABOR CODE OF THE PHILIPPINES, AS AMENDED.

TO:
The Chairman and the Members, Employees' Compensation Commission (ECC).

In view of the perceived need to review, update and expand further the Table of Occupational Diseases and the list of Work-Related Illnesses, including occupational cancer cases, that may be considered compensable under PD 626, as Amended, on the basis of peculiar hazards of employment; and taking cognizance of disabilities or injuries and deaths arising  from undue exposure of employees and workers to certain risky work processes and toxic chemicals and carcenogenic substances in their working environments, I hereby direct the EMPLOYEES' COMPENSATION COMMISSION (ECC) to conduct in-depth studies and research programs on the present official Table of Occupational Diseases and List of Work-Related Illnesses, including occupational cancer cases, with the objective of extending to such additional lists of occupational diseases and work-related illnesses the compensable purview of Title II, Book IV, Labor Code of the Philippines, as Amended.

Done in the City of Manila, Philippines, this 1st day of May, in the Year of Our Lord, Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Two.
