EXCHANGE OF NOTES CONSTITUTING AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES AND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE UNITED KINGDOM OF GREAT BRITAIN AND NORTHERN IRELAND FOR AIR SERVICES BETWEEN AND BEYOND THEIR RESPECTIVE TERRITORIES

Excellency:

I have the honor to refer to the Air-Agreement signed at Manila on January 31, 1955, between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and to state that, pursuant to paragraph 1, Article 4, thereof, the Government of the Republic of the Philippines has designated the Philippine Air Lines, Inc., as the airline to operate in Route 1, Schedule I of the said Agreement.

The Philippine Air Lines, Inc., is an airline whose substantial ownership and effective control are vested in the Philippine Government and in nationals of the Philippines. As such, it has been continuously operating since 1947 up to the present time the Manila-Hong Kong route which is the same identical route as Route 1, Schedule I of the Agreement under reference.

I would appreciate, therefore, if the above information is transmitted to the proper aeronautical authorities of the British Government for the issuance of the appropriate operating authorisation contemplated in paragraph 2, Article 4 of the aforesaid Agreement.

Your Excellency:

I have the honour to refer to your Excellency's Note of the 28th of March regarding the designation of the Philippine Air Lines, Incorporated, as the airline to operate in Route 1, Schedule I, of the Air Agreement signed at Manila on the 31st of January, 1955, between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines.

I have been instructed by Her Britannic Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs to inform your Excellency that Her Majesty's Government have approved the designation of the Philippine Air Lines, Incorporated, to operate Route 1 as specified in Schedule I of the Agreement under reference.

Your Excellency,

I have the honour, under instructions from Her Britannic Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, to refer your Excellency to the Agreement signed at Manila on the 31st of January, 1955, by the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Government of the Republic of the Philippines for air services between and beyond their respective territories, and to state that in accordance with the provisions of paragraph 1 of Article 4 of the Agreement the following United Kingdom airline companies are hereby designated to operate rhe specified routes in Schedule II to the Agreement, i.e.:

British Overseas Airways Corporation for Route 1.
Cathay Pacific Airways Limited for Route 2.
Cathay Pacific Airways Limited for Route 3.

In the circumstances, I have the honour to request that the Government of the Republic of the Philippines will grant the appropriate operating authorisation to the above-designated airlines.

I have the honor to refer to Your Excellency's Note dated March 29, 1955, regarding the designation of the British Overseas Airways Corporation to operate in Route 1 and of the Cathay Pacific Airways Limited in Routes 2 and 3 of Schedule II of the Air Agreement signed at Manila on January 31, 1955, between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

I would like to inform now your Excellency that the Civil Aeronautics Board, this Government, at its meeting held on May 19, 1955, has approved the designation of the British Overseas Airways Corporation to operate in Route 1 and the Cathay Pacific Airways Limited in Routes 2 and 3 of Schedule II of the aforesaid Air Agreement.

Accept, Excellency, the renewed assurances of my highest consideration.
