MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE PHILIPPINE OLYMPIC COMMITTEE/PROJECT: GINTONG ALAY REPRESENTED HEREIN BY GOV. JOSE C. SERING, PRESIDENT; AND ALL-CHINA SPORTS FEDERATION REPRESENTED HEREIN BY MR. ZHONG SHITONG, PRESIDENT.

Pursuant to the Cultural Agreement between the government of the Republic of the Philippines and the government of the People's Republic of China and guided by a common concern and desire for sports cooperation as a means of strengthening friendship and mutual understanding between the youths of both countries;

Considering that cooperation in sports will contribute to strengthening good neighbourly relations and the development of cooperation between their leading sports organizations;

Aware of the importance of bringing sports and physical fitness activities into the every day life of the people with special attention on the exchange of ideas and expertise in this field,

Have reached the following understanding subject to the laws and regulations of each country:

  I.

  SCOPE

To undertake a program on sports cooperation to strengthen friendship and the improvement of athletes in both countries through contacts between national sports organizations, sports clubs and societies in the two countries which shall include:

1. The exchange of sports teams for friendly competition, the programme for exchange and the details to be decided by both sides through consultations.

2. Exchanges of coaches and sports expertise with the aim of exchanging expertise and rendering practical assistance in the training of athletes.

3. Participation in seminars and conferences on improvements of sports skills and qualifications of coaches in both countries.

  II.

  EXPENDITURES

The two sides unless otherwise stipulated, have agreed upon the following terms and conditions:

1. The sending side will pay for the international travel fare and allowances of the persons to and from the country of the receiving side; The international travel expenses to be borne by the sending side are those including the round trip travel from the sending country to the international airports nearest the first and the last cities to be visited in the receiving country.

2. The receiving side shall bear the board and lodgings, inland travel, airport tax and accidental medical care of the visiting athletes, coaches.

3. If one side proposes inviting coaches from the other side or sending athletes to the other side for short-term training, the demand should be given positive consideration by the other side. Specific financial conditions shall be discussed and agreed upon by associations concerned on both sides.

III.

OTHERS

The present understanding shall enter into force on the day of the signatures and shall be valid for a period of two (2) years, renewable automatically for a successive period of two (2) years unless either party requests its termination by serving written notice to the other party six (6) months prior to the intended date of termination.

Done in duplicate at Beijing, on this twenty-third day of. May 1985 in the English and Chinese languages, both texts being equally authentic.
