AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES AND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE GAMBIA ON COOPERATION IN THE FIELD OF HEALTH AND MEDICINE

The Government of the Republic of the Philippines and the Government of the Republic of the Gambia, hereinafter referred to as the "Contracting Parties;"

DESIROUS in developing cooperation between their respective countries in the field of health and medicine.

HAVE AGREED AS FOLLOWS:

ARTICLE 1

The Contracting Parties shall encourage cooperation in the fields of health and medicine, on the basis of equality, reciprocity and mutual benefit. The specific areas of cooperation shall be determined by mutual consent taking into consideration their respective interests.

ARTICLE 2

In particular, the Contracting Parties shall use their best efforts to facilitate:

  • Exchange of information in health fields of mutual interest;
  • Exchange of health professionals and specialists for the purpose of training, study and consultations as specified in the Plans of Cooperation referred to in Article 5 of this Agreement;
  • Direct collaboration between institutions and organizations in their respective countries; and
  • Such other forms of cooperation in the fields of medicine and public health, as may be mutually agreed upon.

ARTICLE 3

The Contracting Parties shall exchange information on forthcoming international congresses and symposia dealing with problems of health and medicine which will take place in their respective countries and, upon the request of one Contracting Party, the other Contracting Party shall send the respective materials on the occasion of such activities.

ARTICLE 4

The respective implementing bodies of this Agreement, pursuant to the respective laws, rules and regulations of the Contracting Parties shall exchange lists of medical literature and films on health care, as well as any other written, visual or audiovisual information materials in the field of health knowledge.

ARTICLE 5

The Contracting Parties entrusts the Department of Health of the Republic of the Philippines and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of the Gambia with the implementation of this Agreement.

To implement this Agreement, the Ministries shall sign Plans of Cooperation in which, among other things, financial provisions shall be specified.

ARTICLE 6

This Agreement shall enter into force on the date of the later notification by the Contracting Parties in writing, through diplomatic channels, that their internal legal requirements for the entry into force of the Agreement have been complied with.

This Agreement shall remain into force for a period of two (2) years. After which, it shall remain in force until either Contracting Parties notifies the other Contracting Party in writing of its intention to terminate this Agreement. The notice of termination shall become effective six (6) months after the date of notification.

Done at New York City this 17th day of September, 1999, in two original copies, both in the English language, each text being equally authentic.
