AGREEMENT ON TOURISM COOPERATION BETWEEN DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES AND THE MINISTRY OF INDUSTRY, TRADE AND TOURISM OF THE REPUBLIC OF HUNGARY

The Department of Tourism of the Republic of the Philippines and the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism of the Republic of Hungary (hereinafter: Contracting Parties).

DESIRING to strengthen the friendly relations and mutual understanding existing between the two countries;

RECOGNIZING the common interest of both countries to establish greater cooperation in the area of tourism;

RECOGNIZING further the importance of tourism in the enhancement of knowledge and understanding between the peoples of two countries and as an essential element for economic development of both countries, have agreed as follows:

ARTICLE 1

The Contracting Parties shall, subject to the laws and regulations of their respective countries, develop and promote cooperation in the field of tourism on the basis of reciprocity and mutual benefit for both countries.

ARTICLE 2

The Contracting Parties shall encourage and promote individual or group travel by their respective citizens to the Philippines and Hungary.

ARTICLE 3

The Contracting Parties shall encourage the exchange of information materials and experiences and whenever practicable, shall include personnel and professional experts on tourism promotion and marketing, infrastructure development and services planning, statistics, and other related data, manpower and skill training and other related activities.

They shall also provide opportunities for their respective National Tourism Promotion Organization (NTOs) to organize or participate in tourism promotion events in both countries, either individually or jointly.

ARTICLE 4

The Contracting Parties shall encourage pertinent tourism-related establishments particularly travel agencies and other institutions, of the two countries to establish business contacts and to exchange experiences and systems with each other.

ARTICLE 5

Provided by the national legislation of both countries the Contracting Parties shall encourage the possibility of joint collaboration for the development and investment projects in the field of tourism and shall inform each other of investment climates and conditions.

ARTICLE 6

In conformity with their respective national laws, each Contracting Party shall endeavor to establish in its territory the tourism information representative office of the other Contracting Party to encourage travels of their citizens to territories of both countries.

ARTICLE 7

The Contracting Parties agree to set up a Joint Working Group in which they will also involve representatives of industry organizations, federations and the national marketing organizations. The task of the Working Group is to analyze the extent to which the aims of the present Agreement are attained, and to discuss ways of solving any problems that may arise in the course of co-operation.

ARTICLE 8

This Agreement shall enter into force on the date of the later notification by the Contracting Parties, through diplomatic channels, that they have complied with their respective domestic requirements for its entry into force.

This Agreement shall be valid unless terminated by either Contracting Party by written notice, through diplomatic channels, of its intention to terminate six (6) months prior to the intended date of termination.

The termination of this Agreement will not affect the implementation of ongoing programs and activities which have been agreed upon while the Agreement was in force.

Any amendment or revision to the text of this Agreement shall be done by mutual consent of the Contracting Parties. These amendments or revisions shall enter into force in accordance with paragraph one of this Article.

Done on 7 February 1998, in Manila, in two original copies in English each being equally authentic.
