AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES AND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE HELLENIC REPUBLIC ON CULTURAL COOPERATION

The Government of the Republic of the Philippines and the Government of the Hellenic Republic, hereinafter referred to as "the Contracting Parties", desirous of strengthening the friendly relations between the two countries and of promoting reciprocal knowledge and understanding through the development of their cultural relations, have agreed as follows:

ARTICLE 1

Each Contracting Party shall promote the study of the national language, literature and culture of the other country in order to allow its own people to benefit the most from the cultural heritage of the said country.

ARTICLE 2

The Contracting Parties shall encourage cooperation and exchanges in the fields of culture and education among their respective competent institutions such as national cultural organizations, science academies, universities and other educational institutions.

ARTICLE 3

The Contracting Parties shall encourage the exchange of print and non-print material in the fields of literature, arts, music, culture, education, science and technology.

ARTICLE 4

The Contracting Parties shall facilitate the organization, in their own territory, of exhibitions and events pertaining to the cultural and artistic life of the other country.

ARTICLE 5

The Contracting Parties shall facilitate exchange and cooperation among the students and student organizations of the two countries.

ARTICLE 6

The Contracting Parties shall, within the availability of their means, facilitate awarding scholarships for university studies or research, in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations valid in each country.

ARTICLE 7

For the implementation of the present Agreement, a Joint Philippine-Greek Committee, composed by representatives of both Contracting Parties, shall be established and shall be convoked alternatively in Manila and in Athens.

ARTICLE 8

This Agreement shall enter into force as soon as the Contracting Parties have informed each other, through diplomatic channels, that their domestic requirements for such entry into force have been completed, and shall remain in force indefinitely, unless denounced by either Contracting Party through a six-month prior written notice.

Done at Athens on 23 June 1997, in two original copies, in the English and Greek languages, both texts being equally authentic.
