MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING ON ACADEMIC COOPERATION BETWEEN THE DEPARTMENT OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES AND THE SECRETARIAT OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE UNITED MEXICAN STATES

The Department of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines, through the Foreign Service Institute, and the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs of the United Mexican States, through the Instituto Matias Romero de Estudios Diplomáticos, hereinafter referred to as "the Parties";

CONVINCED of the importance of establishing and developing close ties of academic cooperation;

MOTIVATED by the desire of enhancing the study of international relations and contemporary events as well as the strengthening of their relations.

Have agreed as follows:

ARTICLE I

The objective of this Memorandum of Understanding is the establishment of a program linking the two institutions in order to strengthen the programs of development of the foreign service in their respective countries.

ARTICLE II

In order to achieve the objective which is referred to in Article I, the Parties shall maintain an active program of exchange of information related to the respective programs of study, courses, seminars, language programs and other activities administered by their respective institutions.

Each of the Parties may terminate this Memorandum of Understanding through written notification addressed to the other with sixty days notice.

The termination of this Memorandum of Understanding will not affect the conclusion of cooperative activities or projects which would be formalized during its period of validity.

Signed in Mexico City, this 12th day of May 1997 in two original copies in English and Spanish, both texts being equally authentic.
