MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES AND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF IRAN FOR COOPERATION IN ENVIRONMENT

The Governments of the Republic of the Philippines and the Islamic Republic of Iran, cognizant of the importance of the diverse issues pertaining to environment, agreed to cooperate in the following areas:

1. Exchange of information and experiences in various areas in the field of environment as follows:

1-1 Studies concerning Environment and Sustainable Development

1-2 Bio-diversity conservation and management of natural resources

1-3 Management and conservation of semi-tropical forests and mangroves

1-4 Management and conservation of wetlands

1-5 Watershed management and control of soil-water erosion in forest areas

1-6 Afforestation and creation of Green Belts

1-7 Management and conservation of wildlife

1-8 Combating of desertification and stabilization of sand dunes

1-9 Rehabilitation of saline lands and utilization of solar energy to supply desalinated water for livestock drinking

1-10 Abatement of pollution of rivers and lakes

1-11 Domestic and industrial waste management, waste recycling and concerned technologies

1-12 Abatement of air pollution in urban areas

1-13 Climate change

1-14 Control of Ozone Depleting Substances and Related Technologies

2. Training and research cooperation in environment, including:

2-1 Planning and conducting short and long-term training courses in areas mentioned in paragraph 1 above;

2-2 Jointly organizing seminars on relevant issues in the field of environment;

2-3 Formulating research programmes in the areas mentioned in paragraph 1 above to enhance mutual cooperation.

3. Exchange of views on environmental plans and programs, between the two countries.

4. Training and research cooperation in application of waste recycling technology.

Done at Manila, Philippines this 8th day of October 1995 (16 Mehr, 1374) in two original copies, English and Persian language; all the two text being equally authentic.
