MEMORANDUM OF INTER-PARLIAMENTARY COOPERATION
WHEREAS, interdependence among nations is imperative for global interaction: in order to promote amity, and understanding and economic cooperation and to enhance world peace;
WHEREAS, the Republic of the Philippines and the Islamic Republic of Iran realize that a harmonious relationship and a more active cooperation between them will make that will interdependence, more meaningful and able them respond vigorously to challenges, as well as opportunities;
WHEREAS this relationship of harmony and cooperation has been fostered by the recent exchange of visits between His Excellency Fidel V. Ramos President of the Republic of the Philippines who visited Iran on march 10-11, 1995 and His Excellency Akbar, Hashemi Rafsanjani, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran who was recently on a state visit to the Philippines which resulted in the signing of Memoranda of Agreement on Energy cooperation, Reciprocal Promotion and Protection of Investments, Environmental Protection , Maritime Merchant Shipping, Fisheries Technical Cooperation and Iran -Philippine - Turkmenistan Agreement on Transit Transport of Philippine Products through Central Asia;
WHEREAS, active involvement and participation of parliamentarians of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Philippines will contribute significantly to the intensification of bilateral cooperation and a more purposeful exchange of experiences in law-making that will be responsive to and supportive of the developmental goals of both countries;
THEREFORE, we, the undersign parliamentary leaders of our two countries have agreed to initiate the formation of,
The Philippine-Iran Parliamentarians, Friendship Association to foster, promote and strengthen ties between our two legislatures and governments in the areas of economic, cultural and educational cooperation, including the advancement of .human rights, thereby contribute to the enhancement of world peace.
