AGREEMENT ON TOURISM COOPERATION BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES AND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE STATE OF KUWAIT

The Government of the Republic of the Philippines and the Government of the State of Kuwait (hereinafter referred to as “the Contracting Parties”)

Desiring to further promote and strengthen friendly relations between their countries by developing cooperation in the field of tourism,

Recognizing the importance of the tourism sector for the economic development of their countries,

Have agreed as follows:

Article 1


The Contracting Parties shall encourage the development of tourism cooperation on the basis of mutual benefit. To achieve this goal, the Contracting Parties shall undertake to coordinate their efforts to showcase their achievements and future plans for the tourism sector in their respective countries.

Article 2


The Contracting Parties shall exchange documents, publications, films and other information materials and facilitate the exchange of visits between their competent authorities for the sharing of tourism expertise.

Article 3


The Contracting Parties shall intensify and increase tourist exchanges through participation in marketing fairs and tourism exhibitions held in their countries.

Article 4


The Contracting Parties shall facilitate exchange of expertise in the management and preservation of natural, historical and cultural tourism sites and the protection of environmental, cultural and social heritage, as well as experiences in professional tourism services.

Article 5


The Contracting Parties shall facilitate private sector cooperation by:

  1. establishing tourism programs and projects,

  2. encouraging tourism and travel offices to arrange tours between the two countries, and

  3. encouraging tourism investment between the two countries.


Article 6


The Contracting Parties shall encourage coordination between their delegations at meetings of international organizations related to tourism.

Article 7


The Contracting Parties shall exchange information and their experiences in the field of standards of hotel and accommodation facilities.

Article 8


A Joint Technical Committee composed of representatives of both Parties shall be established to formulate detailed and timely programs for the implementation of this Agreement. This Committee shall hold its meetings upon the request of either Party. Meetings shall be held in either country on an alternate basis.

Article 9
 

1. This Agreement shall enter into force on the date of the later written notification whereby one of the Parties informs the other through diplomatic channels that it has satisfied the legal national procedures required for its entry into force.

2. This Agreement may be amended with the written consent of both Parties. Such amendment will be effective in accordance with the procedures mentioned in the previous paragraph.

3. This Agreement shall remain in force for a period of five (5) years and automatically renewed for similar periods, unless either Party notifies the other in writing about its intention to terminate this Agreement within six months from the intended date of termination.

Done in Manila on the 15th day of August 2008 in two original texts, in the Arabic and English languages, both texts being equally authentic. In case of divergence in the interpretation of the provisions of this Agreement, the English text shall prevail.
