JOINT COMMUNIQUE ON THE ESTABLISHMENT OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS BETWEEN THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES AND THE COOK ISLANDS

The Government of the Republic of the Philippines and the Government of the Cook Islands, keeping in mind the best interest of their peoples, have decided to establish diplomatic relations as of the date of signing of this Joint Communique.

The two Governments have agreed to develop friendly relations and cooperation on the basis of the principles of mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-aggression, non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit, and peaceful coexistence.

The Government of the Republic of the Philippines and Government of the Cook Islands have agreed to exchange representatives as soon as practicable, and to provide the necessary assistance for the performance by the other’s representative of his/her functions in accordance with international practice and on the basis of principles of reciprocity, equality and mutual benefit.

Done in Wellington, New Zealand on 12 December 2011, in two original copies in the English Language.
