AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES AND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE UNION OF MYANMAR ON VISA EXEMPTION FOR HOLDERS OF ORDINARY PASSPORTS

The GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES and the GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE UNION OF MYANMAR, hereinafter collectively referred to as "Parties";

CONSIDERING the ASEAN Framework Agreement on Visa Exemption signed in Kuala Lumpur on 25 July 2006, and with the view to further strengthen friendly relations between the two Governments and peoples;

DESIRING to streamline the procedure for mutual travel of their citizens holding ordinary passports;

PURSUANT to the prevailing laws and regulations of the respective countries; HAVE AGREED AS FOLLOWS:

ARTICLE 1

Citizens of either Party to this Agreement traveling with ordinary passports with at least 6 months validity will be exempted from any visa requirement to enter or depart from and transit through the territory of the other Party as provided under this Agreement.

ARTICLE 2

I. Citizens of either Party exempted from entry and transit visa requirements under Article 1 of this Agreement shall be entitled to stay in the territory of the other Party for no more than 14 days from the date of entry. In case of casual  obstacles,   an  extension  of  stay  may  be  requested  from   the  competent-authorities of the other Party.
 
2. Citizens of either Party intending to enter the territory of the other Party and stay in excess of 14 days will require visas issued by the competent offices of that Party, subject to its national laws and regulations. Upon their entry into the other Party's country, an extension of stay may be requested from the competent authorities of that Party and pay the fee of extension of stay in accordance with the law and regulation of that Party.

ARTICLE 3

Citizens of either Party shall abide by the laws and regulations in effect in the other Party's country during their stay.

ARTICLE 4

Citizens of either Party traveling with ordinary passports may enter, depart from and transit through the territory of the other Party through international or local border cross-points.

ARTICLE 5

Either Party shall notify through diplomatic channels any changes to passports and provide specimen of new passports to the other Party at least 30 days prior to its use.

ARTICLE 6

Either Party may deny entry or shorten the permitted stay for citizens of the other Party if the competent authorities believe that is reasonable.

ARTICLE 7

1. Either Party may temporarily suspend the implementation of this Agreement either in full or in part for security, national defense, social orderliness and public health reasons.
 
2.   Any temporary suspension or resumption of this Agreement's implementation shall be mutually notified in writing through diplomatic channels.

ARTICLE 8
  1.  This Agreement may be amended or added as agreed upon between the Parties.

  2. Either Party may terminate this Agreement by giving written notice to the other Party through diplomatic channels. In such case, the Agreement shall be terminated and will no longer be in effect within 3 months after the receipt of such written notice.
ARTICLE 9

This Agreement shall be effective thirty days following its signature.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the undersigned, being duly authorized thereto by their respective Governments, have signed the present Agreement.

Done in Manila on this 5th day of December, in the year 2013, in two original texts, in English, all texts being equally authentic.
