MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MOU) ON POLITICAL CONSULTATIONS BETWEEN THE DEPARTMENT OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES AND THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE HELLENIC REPUBLIC

The Department of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic, hereinafter referred to as the “Parties”,

Expressing their wish to further enhance the existing friendly relations between the two countries and promote their cooperation through the establishment of a mechanism on political consultations,

Have reached the following understanding:

Article 1
Purpose


The Parties will hold regular consultations to review all aspects of their bilateral relations, and to exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest as well as on developments taking place in the regional and international arena.

Article 2
Bilateral Consultations
  1. The Parties will mutually determine and agree on the dates, venues and agenda of each round of consultations, which may be carried out alternately in Athens and Manila.

  2. The consultations may also take place in a third country on the occasion of an international conference or meeting participated in by both Parties.

  3. The meetings will be held at ministerial level and/or at the level of senior officials of the two Ministries.
Article 3
Settlement of Disputes

Any disputes arising out of the implementation or interpretation of this MOU will be resolved through consultations, through diplomatic channels.

Article 4
Relationship to other International Agreements


The provisions of this Memorandum of Understanding shall be without prejudice to any other treaties or agreements to which both States are parties.

Article 5
Final Provisions


The present Memorandum of Understanding will come into effect on the date of its signature and shall remain in effect for a period of five (5) years. Thereafter, it will be automatically renewed for successive five-year periods unless either Party officially notifies the other of its intention to suspend or terminate it at least six months prior to expiry of its initial or any subsequent date of validity. Unless otherwise agreed upon by the Parties, its suspension or termination should not prejudice the completion of projects initiated under this Memorandum of Understanding.

Any amendment or revision of the text of this Memorandum of Understanding may be done in writing my mutual consent of the Parties, through diplomatic channels. Such amendment or revision will come into effect on a date mutually decided by the Parties.
