AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES AND THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION CONCERNING A REQUEST FOR CONSULTANT IN THE FIELD OF PEDIATRIC NUTRITION

Reference: This Agreement is also published in VIII DFA TS No. 1, p. 140.

Philippines 0040 B(l) 24 June 1969

Sir:

I have the honour to refer to your Government's request dated 1 March 1968 for a consultant in the field of pediatric nutrition for three months in 1970. I am happy to inform you that WHO is able to meet this request.

The terms of reference of this consultant will be as follows:

1. To advise on the work of the malnutrition wards, including practical nutrition teaching for mothers at the National Children's Hospital (Quezon City) and in other institutions as requested by the Health Department;

2. To assist in conducting in the National Children's Hospital a short course for physicians in pediatric nutrition, emphasizing clinical aspects and community follow-up;

3. To advise on the methodology of nutrition research which the National Children's Hospital may plan to undertake as part of the comprehensive development of its nutrition work.

Particular emphasis is placed on the provision of all available background documentation relative to the consultant's duties and on the provision of a Government to work with and assist the consultant during his assignment. It would be appreciated if the name of this counterpart could be communicated to the Regional Office at an early date.

The Basic Agreement concluded between your Government and the World Health Organization on 28 December 1950 will govern the implementation of this request and the respective obligations of WHO and the Government including, inter alia, provision of transport within the country and secretarial services, if required.

Without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing paragraph, the Government shall insure WHO, its advisers, agents, and employees for civil liability under the laws of the country in respect of any vehicles provided for in meeting this request.

If you find these proposals acceptable, you are invited to sign five copies of this letter. Three are for the use of your Government; the remaining copies should be returned to this office.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your obedient Servant,

(Sgd.) FRANCISCO J. DY, M.D.
Regional Director

FOR THE GOVERNMENT OF
THE PHILIPPINES

(Sgd.) JOSE D. INGLES
Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs
