EXCHANGE OF NOTES BETWEEN THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES AND THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA TO INCREASE THE PHILIPPINE QUOTA FOR ENLISTMENT IN THE UNITED STATES NAVY

The Department of Foreign Affairs presents its compliments to the Embassy of the United States of America and has the honor to refer to the Embassy's note No. 280 dated 18 May 1972 concerning the United States proposal to increase the Philippine quota for enlistment in the United States Navy from 45 per month to 166 per month, or 2,000 per year beginning 1972.

The Department wishes to inform the Embassy that the Philippine Government has no objection to the proposal. It is understood that Philippine enlistees will be treated on the same basis as United States enlistees as regards compensation .and prospects for advancement.

The Department of Foreign Affairs avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Embassy of the United States of America the assurances of its highest consideration.

The Embassy of the United States of America presents its compliments to the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines and has the honor to inform the Department that as stipulated in the Bureau of Naval Personnel letter 438/72 dated 2 May 1972, the United States Navy can, at this time, increase the quota for Philippine Nationals input in the United States Navy. The Navy is prepared to increase the current quota of 45 per month to 166 per month, or 2,000 per year, beginning June 1972.

Accepted applicants will enter the Recruit Training Command with the rate of Seaman Recruit and will become eligible for any and all seaman and/or airman rates on an equal basis with United States citizen enlistees.

The Embassy of the United States of America avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Department the assurances of its highest consideration.
