EXTENSION OF THE DESIGNATION OF EXISTING CENTERS OF EXCELLENCE (COE) AND RENTERS OF DEVELOPMENT (COD) AND

SUBJECT :
EXTENSION OF THE DESIGNATION OF EXISTING CENTERS OF EXCELLENCE (COE) AND RENTERS OF DEVELOPMENT (COD) AND
 
 
EVALUATION OF PENDING APPLICATIONS FOR 1) CENTERS OF EXCELLENCE AND CENTERS OF DEVELOPMENT IN FIELDS THAT HAVE NOT GONE THROUGH A SECOND ROUND OF COE/COD SELECTION; AND 2) UPGRADING TO CENTER OF EXCELLENCE FROM CENTER OF DEVELOPMENT

In accordance with the pertinent provision of Republic Act (RA) No. 7722, otherwise known as the "Higher Education Act of 1994," by virtue of Commission en banc Resolution No. 087-2012 dated 16 April 2012, and for the purpose of providing transitional mechanisms while conducting consultations on key reforms aimed to rationalize the higher education system and thereby enhance its contribution to national development, the Commission hereby promulgate the following:

Centers of Excellence and Centers of Development COE/COD
  1. Extension of Designation as COE/COD

    • The existing Centers of Excellence or Centers of Development shall continue to be designated as such until 31 May 2014.

  2. Application as CQE/COD

    • Applications for COE/COD  in disciplines for which the Technical Panels have not identified/selected a second batch of COEs/CODs that are received by CHED on or before 31   May 2012 shall  be processed using existing criteria. If  approved,   their   COE/COD designation shall expire on 31 May 2014.

  3. Upgrading from COD to COE

    • Applications for upgrading from COD to COE received by CHED on or before 31 May 2012 shall be processed using existing criteria.  If approved, their COE designation shall expire on 31 May 2014.

  4. Designation of Pending COE to COD recommendations of the Technical Panels

    • Applications evaluated and endorsed by the Technical Panels to the Commission en bane for approval that were not acted upon due to the issuance of the Memorandum from the Chairperson (Deferment of the Implementation of the Quality Assurance Programs of the Commission) dated 27 January 2011 shall be processed. If approved, their designation shall expire on 31 May 2014.
This CMO shall take effect fifteen (15) days after its publication in the Official Gazette or in a newspaper of general circulation and shall remain in force and effect until the specified date of expiration or until otherwise revoked or suspended.
