[ EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 366, November 10, 1950 ]

INTENSIFYING THE CAMPAIGN AND EXTENDING UP TO JUNE 19, 1951, THE PERIOD FIXED IN EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 145, DATED JUNE 19, 1948, AND EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 190, DATED DECEMBER 16, 1948, FOR THE COLLECTION OF FUNDS WITH WHICH TO FINANCE THE REPAIR OR RECONSTRUCTION OF THE HOUSE OF DR. JOSE RIZAL IN CALAMBA, LAGUNA, AND OF DAPITAN PARK IN ZAMBOANGA



WHEREAS, the house occupied by Dr. Jose Rizal in Calamba, Laguna, has already been reconstructed and was inaugurated on June 19, 1950;

WHEREAS, such house, for its historical value, should be preserved as a national shrine and furnished with the kind of furniture or the likeness thereof used by Dr. Rizal;

WHEREAS, Dapitan Park in Zamboanga should also be preserved as a national shrine and be made the object of pilgrimage on the part of residents of the Philippines, particularly the school children, and a place which tourists from abroad should visit;

WHEREAS, for the P132,400.26 already contributed by public and private school children, the sum of P106.694.20 has already been spent for the reconstruction of Dr. Rizal’s Calamba home and P10,000 more will be used to furnish it;

WHEREAS, an additional amount of approximately P118,000 will be needed to reconstruct the Dapitan Park in Zamboanga, so that a grand total of P250,000 is needed for the reconstruction of both the Calamba Home and Dapitan Park;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Elpidio Quirino, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby call upon all citizens and residents of the Philippines, irrespective of nationality or creed, to assist in this patriotic endeavor. I authorize not only the officials and teachers of all public and private schools, colleges, and universities, but also all other officials of the Government and semi-government agencies, civic organizations, and the general public to intensify and extend the campaign for voluntary contributions, not only from public and private educational institutions, but also from the other agencies of the country, both Government and private, in order to raise the total amount of P250,000 by June 19, 1951, for the furnishing of the reconstituted house of Dr. Jose Rizal in Calamba, Laguna, and for the restoration of the Dapitan Park in Zamboanga. I authorize the Secretary of Education, who is the Chairman of the committee in charge of the restoration of these historical sites, the Director of Public Schools and Director of Private Schools, who are members of this committee, to accept voluntary contributions for this fund and to issue official receipts therefor.
