[ EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 168, September 03, 1965 ]

AUTHORIZING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE MALIGAYA RICE RESEARCH AND TRAINING CENTER OF THE PHILIPPINES AT THE MALIGAYA EXPERIMENT STATION OF THE BUREAU OF PLANT INDUSTRY, DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND NATURAL RESOURCES AND DEFINING ITS OBJECTIVES.



In order to strengthen the machinery for increased production of rice through the training of manpower vitally necessary in bridging the gap between technology and the farmers, I, Diosdado Macapagal, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby authorize the establishment of the Maligaya Rice Research and Training Center of the Philippines at the Maligaya Experiment Station of the Bureau of Plant Industry, located in the Municipality of Muñoz, Province of Nueva Ecija. The Center shall be administered by the Bureau of Plant Industry and shall utilize the present staff and facilities of the Maligaya Experiment Station for its nucleus.

As its basic responsibility the Center shall undertake an intensified research and training program on the more practical aspects of rice production through the medium of field research, whereby the findings of scientific institutions in the country, public and private alike, are subjected to confirmation on a larger scale, and in the process simultaneously train researchers, production men and extension agents from agencies concerned with rice production, who in turn will disseminate the acquired information to an increasing number of farmers in their respective areas of assignments.

The Center shall have for its initial operation the amount of three hundred thousand pesos authorized under the General Appropriation Act for Fiscal Year 1965-1966.
