[ PROCLAMATION NO. 583, March 18, 2004 ]

DECLARING WEDNESDAY, APRIL 7, 2004, IN LIEU OF FRIDAY, APRIL 9, 2004 (ARAW NG KAGITINGAN) AS A REGULAR HOLIDAY AND SATURDAY, APRIL 10, 2004, AS A SPECIAL (NON-WORKING) DAY, THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY.



WHEREAS, Maunday Thursday, which falls on April 8, 2004 and Good Friday, which falls on April 9, 2004 are both regular holidays;

WHEREAS, this year, "Araw ng Kagitingan", April 9, 2004, coincides with Good Friday;

WHEREAS, Saturday, April 10, 2004 falls between Good Friday and Easter Sunday;

WHEREAS, the Saturday falling between Good Friday and Easter Sunday has been declared a special day throughout the country in the past;

WHEREAS, it is important that said events be observed with meaningful and appropriate activities;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ALBERTO G. ROMULO, Executive Secretary, by order of Her Excellency, GLORIA MACAPAGAL ARROYO, do hereby declare:

SECTION 1. Wednesday, April 7, 2004, In lieu of Friday, April 9, 2004 (Araw ng Kagitingan) shall be a regular holiday throughout the country.

SECTION 2. Saturday, April 10, 2004 shall be a special (non-working) day throughout the country.

All activities and celebrations for the historical milestone in observance of "Araw ng Kagitingan" shall be observed on April 7, 2004.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
