[ PROCLAMATION NO. 584, March 19, 2004 ]

DECLARING MONDAY, MARCH 22, 2004 AS GENERAL EMILIO AGUINALDO DAY AND THE COMMEMORATION OF THE TEJEROS CONVENTION



WHEREAS, Monday, March 22, 2004, marks the birth anniversary of General Emilio Aguinaldo, the 1st President of the Philippine Republic;

WHEREAS, on the same date the Tejeros Convention was held in which General Emilio Aguinaldo won in absentia the 1st presidential election in the Philippines.

WHEREAS, It is fitting that the Filipino people should continue to remember the sacrifices of our heroes.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ALBERTO G. ROMULO, Executive Secretary, by order of Her Excellency, GLORIA MACAPAGAL ARROYO, do hereby declare Monday, March 22, 2004 as General Emilio Aguinaldo Day and the commemoration of the Tejeros Convention. The day, however, shall be a regular working day.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.

Done in the City of Manila, this 19th day of March, in the year of Our Lord, Two Thousand and Four.
