DECLARING A DAY OF NATIONAL MOURNING OVER THE DEATH OF NICK JOAQUIN, NATIONAL ARTIST



WHEREAS, the death of national artist Nick Joaquin is a big loss to our nation;

WHEREAS, it is fitting to set aside a day of national mourning to honor a great Filipino who has left an enduring legacy to our people.

NOW, THEREFORE, I GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare a day of national mourning on Sunday, May 2, 2004, for the national artist Nick Joaquin. Flags of all government buildings and institutions throughout the country shall, on that day, be flown at half mast.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.

DONE in the City of Manila, this 30th day of April, in the year of Our Lord, Two Thousand and Four.
