[ PROCLAMATION NO. 1091, August 07, 2015 ]

DECLARING OCTOBER 2015 TO OCTOBER 2016 AS THE CENTENNIAL YEAR OF THE SENATE OF THE PHILIPPINES



WHEREAS, on 16 October 2016, the Philippine Senate will celebrate its centennial anniversary;

WHEREAS, from being part of the bicameral Philippine Legislature under the Jones Law, it has become a revered democratic institution that consistently upholds the national interest, protects civil, political and human rights, and promotes transparency and accountability in public service; and

WHEREAS, it is timely and fitting to honor this institution’s history and contribution to economic development, social justice and political maturity, and its defense and promotion of democratic values.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BENIGNO S. AQUINO III, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare October 2015 to October 2016 as the Centennial Year of the Philippine Senate.

All departments, bureaus, offices, national government agencies and local government units and government-owned or -controlled corporations are hereby enjoined to give full support, assistance and cooperation in the observance of the Centennial Year of the Senate.

The Postmaster General .is hereby directed to cause the design, printing, and issuance of a special stamp commemorating the occasion.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.

DONE, in the City of Manila, this 7th day of August in the year of our Lord, Two Thousand and Fifteen.
