[ PROCLAMATION NO. 794, February 17, 2005 ]

DECLARING FEBRUARY 17 TO 23, 2005 AS ROTARY CENTENNIAL WEEK



WHEREAS, ROTARY was founded on 23 February 1905 in Chicago, Illinois, USA by Paul Harris;

WHEREAS, ROTARY has grown into a service institution known as Rotary International with 529 Districts, 31,963 Rotary Clubs consisting of 1,219,532 million members worldwide in 166 countries;

WHEREAS, ROTARY has served and continue to serve practically every humanitarian need thru its humanitarian, cultural and education program;

WHEREAS, ROTARY was introduced in the Philippines in 1919, with the organization of the Rotary Club of Manila, the 1st Rotary Club in Asia, and the popular and prestigious movement has now grown into ten (10) Philippine Rotary Districts with more than seven hundred (700) Rotary Clubs;

WHEREAS, ROTARY is now celebrating a century of service, a new century of success.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare February 17 to 23, 2005 as Rotary Centennial Week in the Philippines.

All departments, agencies and instrumentalities of the national government are enjoined to extend its cooperation and assistance to the Philippine Rotary Districts to celebrate with appropriate ceremonies and programs the role played by Rotary in the upliftment of the disadvantage members of our society and in bridging the gap between the privileged and underprivileged sectors of our Philippine society.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.

Done in the City of Manila, this 17th day of February in the year of Our Lord, Two Thousand and Five.
