[ PROCLAMATION NO. 333, October 23, 2017 ]

DECLARING THURSDAY, 26 OCTOBER 2017, THE DAY OF INTERMENT OF ARCHBISHOP RICARDO CARDINAL VIDAL, AS A SPECIAL (NON- WORKING) DAY IN THE PROVINCE OF CEBU, INCLUDING THE CITIES OF CEBU, MANDAUE, AND LAPU-LAPU



WHEREAS, Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, who became Archbishop of Cebu on 24 August 1982, passed away on 18 October 2017.

WHEREAS, Thursday, 26 October 2017, as the date of interment of Archbishop Vidal;

WHEREAS, the Senate of the Philippines, through Senate Resolution No. 306 s 2010, has recognized the contribution of Archbishop Vidal to the society and the people of Cebu, particularly by providing spiritual leadership and inspiration, helping the communityavert or survive several crises and conflicts, often acting as a peacekeeper and giving the voice of moderation amid dashing viewsand interests in local and national issues";

WHEREAS, Archbishop Vidal has enjoyed great affection by the people in the Roman Catholic Church and deep respect by the people of other Christian denominations and Islamic faith; and

WHEREAS, it is but fitting and proper to give the people of the Province of Cebu the opportunity to remember, honor and show respect, and join the interment of the late Archbishop Vidal;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, SALVADOR C. MEDIALDEA, Executive Secretary, by authority of the President, RODRIGO ROA DUTERTE, do hereby declare Thursday, 26 October 2017, the day of interment of the late Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, as a special (non-working) day in the Province of Cebu, including the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, and Lapu-Lapu.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.

Done in the City of Manila, this 23rd day of October, in the year of Our Lord Two Thousand and Seventeen.
