[ PROCLAMATION NO. 504, April 29, 1958 ]

AUTHORIZING THE CULTURAL FOUNDATION OF THE PHILIPPINES TO CONDUCT A NATIONAL FUND CAMPAIGN DURING THE PERIOD FROM MAY 1 TO JUNE 30, 1958



WHEREAS, the maintenance and strengthening of cultural relations among nations is vital to the promotion of world understanding which is the foundation of world peace;

WHEREAS, the propagation and dissemination of Philippine art and culture in foreign countries, especially those of the Orient, will further enhance the prestige of the Philippines abroad and enable her to have closer relations with other nations; and

WHEREAS, the Cultural Foundation of the Philippines, aware of the foregoing, is undertaking an extensive cultural promotion program between the Philippines and other countries through-increased knowledge and better understanding of their history, art, literature, music, political institutions, and common problems and interests in the economic and social fields;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Carlos P. Garcia, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the authority vested in me by law, do hereby authorize the Cultural Foundation of the Philippines to conduct a national fund campaign from May 1 to June 30, 1958. I call upon all citizens and residents of the Philippines, irrespective of their nationality, race, or creed, to assist in this noble campaign by giving generously of their means in the interest of Philippine culture.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.

Done in the City of Manila, this 29th day of April, in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and fifty-eight, and of the Independence of the Philippines, the twelfth.
