[ PROCLAMATION NO. 539, October 17, 1958 ]

DECLARING THE LAST WEEK OF OCTOBER OF EVERY YEAR AS NURSES' WEEK AND AUTHORIZING THE FILIPINO NURSES' ASSOCIATION TO TAKE CHARGE OF THE OBSERVANCE THEREOF.



WHEREAS, although some progress has been achieved in the field of health and nursing today, there are still many people who do not utilize the services of nurses in times of their ailments; and

WHEREAS, in order to fully develop consciousness and understanding among our people on the importance and availability of nursing resources in the country, it is essential that a period be set aside for the observance of the nursing profession;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CARLOS P. GARCIA, President, of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby designate the last week of October of every year as Nurses’ Week. I call upon all citizens and residents of the Philippines, irrespective of nationality or creed, to observe this occasion. I authorize the Filipino Nurses Association to take charge of the observance of Nurses’ Week.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.

Done in the City of Manila, this 17th day of October, in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and fifty-eight, and of the Independence of the Philippines, the thirteenth.
