[ PROCLAMATION NO. 10, February 16, 1962 ]

PROCLAMING THE PERIOD FROM FEBRUARY 16 TO MARCH 30, 1962, AS THE CENTURY 21 FUND DRIVE



WHEREAS, participation in international fairs and expositions provides an effective means of encouraging and assisting economic, commercial, industrial, agricultural, and cultural ties among participating nations;

WHEREAS, there exists an urgent need for the Philippines to project effectively our culture and export products into the consciousness of other foreign nations;

WHEREAS, the Philippine Government, through the Department of Commerce and Industry, has committed the Philippines to participate in the Seattle World’s Fair, the Century 21 Exposition, covering culture,, entertainments science, commerce, and industry, which will be held in Seattle, Washington, U.S.A. from April 21, 1962, to October 21, 1962; and

WHEREAS, adequate budgetary provision is a requisite for the success of this undertaking which is a joint venture of the government and private sector;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Diosdado Macapagal, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the power vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from February 16 to March 30, 1962, as the Century 21 Fund Drive. 1 call on all business enterprises throughout the Philippines to extend their unstinted support and cooperation and to contribute their share to this laudable project in order that Philippine participation in this exposition will be a success that will redound to the expansion and promotion of our foreign trade and to the development of our national economy.

IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal, of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed,

Done in the City of Manila, this 16th day of February, in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and sixty-two, and of the Independence of the Philippines, the sixteenth.
