[ PROCLAMATION NO. 59, November 08, 1962 ]

AUTHORIZING THE PHILIPPINE CANCER SOCIETY, INC., TO CONDUCT A NATIONAL EDUCATIONAL, MEMBERSHIP, AND FUND DRIVE DURING THE PERIOD FROM DECEMBER 1, 1962, TO JANUARY 31, 1963



WHEREAS, cancer being one of the most dreaded killer-diseases in the Philippines today, its prevention and control are matters of urgent and nation-wide concern;

WHEREAS, the Philippine Cancer Society, Inc., has successfully pioneered and spearheaded the move towards the prevention and control of cancer through the work and activities of its Detection and Diagnostic Center which has already served free more than 18,000 patients since the organization of the Society four years ago;

WHEREAS, the progress which the Society has achieved in the pursuit of its objectives can also be attributed to its statistical research program, combined with its efforts to disseminate information on the disease, particularly its prevention and control; and

WHEREAS, the Society, conscious of the need to continue to render its free medical services to the public as shown by a tremendous increase in the number of patients flocking daily to the Center, has decided to carry on its work and to expand its activities to reach other parts of the country;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Diosdado Macapagal, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the authority vested in me by law, do hereby authorize the Philippine Cancer Society, Inc., to conduct a national educational, membership, and fund campaign from December 1, 1962, to January 31, 1963. I call upon all citizens and residents of the Philip­pines, irrespective of nationality, race, or creed, to assist in this humanitarian campaign by giving generously of their means so that it may be a complete, success. I also authorize and call on all national, provincial, city, and municipal government officials and employees to extend full and unconditional cooperation to make this campaign a success.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.

Done in the City of Manila, this 8th day of November, in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and sixty-two.
