[ PROCLAMATION NO. 180, November 22, 1963 ]

AUTHORIZING THE PHILIPPINE CANCER SOCIETY, INC., TO CONDUCT A NATIONAL EDUCATIONAL, MEMBERSHIP AND FUND DRIVE DURING THE PERIOD FROM DECEMBER 1, 1963, TO JANUARY 31, 1964.



WHEREAS, the prevention and control of cancer, one of the most dreaded killer-diseases in the Philippines today, is a matter of urgent and nationwide concern;

WHEREAS, the Philippine Cancer Society, Inc., has successfully pioneered and spearheaded the more towards the prevention and control of cancer through the work and activities of its Detection and Diagnostic Center which has already served free more than 24,000 patients since the organization of the Society six years ago;

WHEREAS, the progress which the Society has achieved in the pursuit of its objectives can partly be attributed to its efforts to disseminate information on the disease, especially the danger signals; and

WHEREAS, the Society, desirous of meeting fully the demand of the public for its free medical services, has decided to expand its activities to reach other parts of the country and also, if possible, to include cancer treatment as one phase of its services;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DIOSDADO MACAPAGAL, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the authority vested in me by law, do hereby authorize the Philippine Cancer Society, Inc., to conduct a national educational, membership and fund campaign during the period from December 1, 1963, to January 31, 1964. I call upon all citizens and residents of the Philippines, irrespective of nationality, race or creed, to support this humanitarian endeavor by giving generously of their means so that it may be a complete success. I also authorize and call on all national, provincial, city and municipal government officials, and employees to extend full and unconditional cooperation to make this campaign a success.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.

Done in the City of Manila, this 22nd day of November, in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and sixty-three.
