AMENDING TO DA MEMORANDUM ORDER 18, SERIES OF 2000, LIFTING TEMPORARY BAN ON THE IMPORTATION OF LIVE PIGS AND SEMEN FROM THE UNITED KINGDOM, EXCEPT EAST ANGLIA



The Commission of the European Communities adopted the decision stipulated in the provisions of Council Directive 80/217/EEC of 22 January 1980 introducing community measures for the control of Classical Swine Fever as last amended by the Accession of Austria, Finland and Sweden, and in particular thereof:
  1. Article 9-paragraph 1 protection and surveillance zones were immediately established around outbreak sites in Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex.  The movement of live pigs and untreated pig meat is restricted.

  2. European Union ban has been reduced to the countries of East Anglia wherein Classical Swine Fever has been confirmed.

  3. Apart from pork, pork products and pork by-products, EU also lifted the movement of live pigs and semen.
Based on the above declaration of the European Communities, I hereby approve the importation of live pigs and semen from the United Kingdom, except East Anglia.

This Order shall take effect immediately.
