GUIDELINES ON THE IMPORTATION OF MEAT AND MEAT PRODUCTS OF PORCINE ORIGIN FROM THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY



This Memorandum Order defines the conditions required to ensure that meat and meat products of porcine origin imported from Germany are free from Hog Cholera or Classical Swine Fever (CSF):

A.        FOR FRESH FROZEN MEAT OF PORCINE ORIGIN

The meat should come from animals:

1.         that have not been kept in a CSF-infected zone;
2.         that have been slaughtered in an abattoir not situated in a CSF-infected zone;
3.         unequivocally diagnosed to be CSF-free after ante- and post-mortem examination; and
4.         have not been vaccinated against CSF.

B.        FOR MEAT PRODUCTS OF PORCINE ORIGIN

The entire consignment of meat products should:

1.         come from animals slaughtered in an abattoir not situated in a CSF-infected zone and unequivocally diagnosed to be CSF-free after ante- and post-mortem examination;
2.         have been processed to ensure the complete destruction of the CSF virus;
3.         have been handled after processing with precautions necessary to preclude contact with any source of the CSF virus.

All rules, regulations and other issuance inconsistent with this Order are hereby revoked.

This Order shall take effect immediately.
