TEMPORARY BAN ON THE IMPORTATION OF FMD-SUSCEPTIBLE ANIMALS, THEIR PRODUCTS AND BY-PRODUCTS, FRESH FROZEN PRODUCTS ORIGINATING FROM MYANMAR



WHEREAS, based on the report submitted by the Dr. U. Maung Nyunt, Director General, Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department, Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, Yangon to the Office International des Epizooties last 25 August 2005, there were outbreaks of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) virus type Asia 1 in Myanmar;

WHEREAS, the FMD outbreaks were reported in the following locations: Daw paw ka law and Pa kan in Loikaw district, State of Kayah; and Kathawdaw, Demawhsoe district, State of Kayah;

WHEREAS, there is a need to prevent the entry of importation of FMD-susceptible animals, their products and by-products, and fresh frozen products originating from Myanmar;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DOMINGO F. PANGANIBAN, Secretary of Agriculture, by the powers vested in me by law, do hereby institute the following emergency measures:

    1. Banning the importation of FMD-susceptible animals, their products and by-products, and fresh frozen products originating from Myanmar;

    2. Immediate suspension of the processing, evaluation and issuance of Veterinary Quarantine Clearance/International Veterinary Certificate/Import Permit for applications relevant to the importation of the above-stated commodities from Myanmar by the Bureau of Animal Industry;

    3. Stoppage and confiscation of all shipments of FMD-susceptible animals, their products and by-products, and fresh frozen products into the country originating from Myanmar by all DA Quarantine Officers/Inspectors at all major sea/air ports.

This Order shall take effect immediately.
