PRESCRIBING CONCRETE STRUCTURES FOR SHORT BRIDGES



In order to ensure a cost effective design of bridges and to promote the use of locally available materials in project implementation, all concerned offices of this Department are ' hereby directed to adopt the use of concrete structures for all permanent bridges with total lengths of up to 30.0 meters.

Henceforth, the following criteria shall be observed in the selection of concrete structures to be used:

  1. For span lengths of 6-12 meters, flat slab bridge shall be used.
  2. For span lengths of 13-20 meters, reinforced concrete deck girder (RCDG) bridge shall be used.
  3. For span lengths of 21-30 meters, prestressed concrete girder (PSCG) bridge shall be used.

All projects under the on-going bridge supply contracts being implemented by the PMO-Special Bridge Projects and President's Bridge Program Office are not covered by this issuance.

This Order shall take effect immediately.
