[ PRESIDENTIAL DECREE NO. 1781, January 15, 1981 ]

GRANTING PHILLIPINE CITIZENSHIP OF JOSEPH WILLIAM STEVENS Y VALDEZ

WHEREAS, he was born in the Philippines on May 4, 1935 of a distinguished Filipino mother and an American father who fought and was captured in Bataan, participated in the famous Death March and died as prisoner of the enemy in 1945;

WHEREAS, even as a citizen of the United States, he contributed his expertise in the development of the insurance industry in the last twenty-one (21) years;

WHERAS, since his birth in the Philippines and up to the present time, he has also selflessly dedicated himself to the upliftment of sports in the country particularly football and in the same spirit has involved himself with institutions devoted to the task of preserving our environmental ecology;

WHEREAS, he and his family have decided to make the Philippines their permanent home to which they shall forever owe and pledge their allegiance and loyalty.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, by virtue of the powers vested in me by the Constitution do hereby grant Philippine citizenship to Joseph William Stevens y Valdez with all the rights, privileges and prerogatives appurtenant thereto provided, he takes his oath of allegiance within thirty (30) days herefrom.

This Decree shall take effect immediately.
