[ Act No. 2293, November 08, 1913 ]

AN ACT PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR WILLFUL DESTRUCTION, INJURY, OR TAKING OR CARRYING AWAY OF ANY PROPERTY OF THE PHILIPPINE LIBRARY.

By authority of the  United States, be it enacted by the Philippine Legislature, that:

SECTION 1. Any person who shall willfully, maliciously, or wantonly tear, deface, mutilate, injure, or destroy any book, pamphlet, map, chart, engraving, print, picture, manuscript, or statue, or other property belonging to any division or collection of the Philippine Library; or who shall take and carry away with intent to convert to his own use, any book, pamphlet, map, chart, print, picture, manuscript, statue, or other property of the said library, shall be Penalty-punished by imprisonment for not more than six months or by fine not exceeding two hundred pesos, or at the discretion of the court by both, and shall be required also to return the property so taken or the value thereof, or pay the value of the property mutilated, injured, or destroyed: Provided, That should any of the acts punishable under this law be punishable under the Penal Code by a greater penalty, the penalty prescribed by the Penal Code shall be imposed.
