DECLARING FRIDAY, AUGUST 18, 2006, AS SPECIAL (NON-WORKING) DAY IN THE CITY OF DAVAO



WHEREAS, the city of Davao has traditionally held a week-long Kadayawan Festival in the month of August as a thanksgiving by the people of the City of Davao and its local government for the abundant harvests of fruits and other farm produce and the lush growth of flowering ornamental plants;

WHEREAS, the Kadayawan Festival is also an occasion for the various indigenous communities to display their peculiar cultural sports and distinct tribal arts, crafts and their significant contributions to Davao City’s development and rich culture;

WHEREAS, it is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Davao be given full opportunity to celebrate this event with appropriate ceremonies.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, EDUARDO R. ERMITA, Executive Secretary, by authority of Her Excellency, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, do hereby declare Friday, August 18, 2006, as special (non-working) day in the City of Davao to be known as the "Indigenous People’s Day",

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
